Our Mission
To strengthen the Massachusetts
Department of Public Health's ability to foster the development
of comprehensive, culturally appropriate health promotion policies
and health care services for GLBT people through a variety of venues
including community awareness, policy development, advocacy, and
prevention strategies.
Our Vision
To create a partnership between the Massachusetts Department of
Public Health, community-based health and human services agencies,
and the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) communities
and their straight allies to develop an awareness of health issues;
reduce barriers to health care and prevention services; and promote,
enhance, and sustain health norms for GLBT people throughout the
Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Project Goals
• Disseminate Community
Standards of Practice for Provision of Quality Health Care Services
to Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgendered clients;
• Offer provider training and technical
assistance to help agencies implement the Community Standards;
• Collect and disseminate information on health access issues
for GLBT consumers;
• Gather information about the health access issues of GLBT
communities, though focus groups and community forums;
• Collect, compile and update research information about GLBT
health issues and concerns;
• Identify and quantify gaps in services as well as barriers
to care for GLBT people;
• Provide guidance to the MDPH regarding policies which need
to be established or revised to ensure that culturally appropriate
health care and health promotion / disease prevention services are
available to GLBT people in Massachusetts;
• Network with other agencies, organizations and individuals
that address GLBT health issues to provide information and training
for health care professionals.
